Hello Tosa:Mayor Wellness Walk 2 (002)
A new year has begun and if you’re like me and most Americans, you’ve made a resolution to live healthier and happier in 2016. The City of Wauwatosa continues to strive toward a vision that echoes this resolution: to make the healthy choice the easy choice for all residents in Wauwatosa. One way we can achieve this is to continue to work together to grow a culture of wellness and a better quality of life for all citizens across our City. The Wauwatosa Health Department serves to protect and promote the health and safety of our community. In 2015, our Health Department achieved national accreditation; making it the seventh accredited health department in Wisconsin and 1 of 83 across the country.

Accreditation means our health department meets national quality standards to best serve the community. One way we can work together to create a culture of wellness is through the ongoing “Healthy Wauwatosa” initiative. Led by the Health Department, this city-wide program aims to engage the community around prevention awareness, education, and action through training and community events. The program focuses on public and private community partners working together to share health information and promote understanding about programs that impact health outcomes and quality of life. Every February, the City of Wauwatosa Health Officer and I meet with community partners from various organizations throughout the City at the Healthy Wauwatosa Partner Forum. We discuss the status of our City’s health concerns and ways to work together to have a positive impact on our top priorities. Look for more information to come on the “Healthy Wauwatosa” initiative through health articles, community events, and social media. Find us on Facebook under “Healthy Wauwatosa.”  The Health Department invites you to participate in upcoming health surveys, focus groups, and interviews for the 2016 health assessment of our community. Be informed. Stay involved. And join me in
making a goal to get healthy in 2016.

Happy New Year!

Mayor Kathy Ehley
